Yamarita fries recipe (coated yam) is what I will be sharing with you today.
Still on yam recipe matter! In my previous post, I said to get the feel of the sweetness of yam is between the month of Feburary-June because almost the water in yam has dried up.
Enjoying more of yams this season where almost all yams you get in the market are sweet is worth it.
You could prepare and twist it in whatever way. You can enjoy your yams, with vegetable sauce, egg sauce, porridge, raw fresh palm oil as in the previous post, pepper soup, fried, as well as the yamarita fries recipe (coated yam) we have on ground.
The first time I tasted this recipe, I was like wow! So there’s something more to fried yam?
I love fried yams but yamarita is kind of taking it a step further to another level of super taste, lol!
This yamarita recipe is worth giving a try, you will love it!
Yamarita fries recipe (coated yam) is a breakfast treat loved by Nigerians and originated from the north. It’s a very tasty recipe coated with spiced flour.
The preparation is similar to battered chicken, battered fish and meat.
It can be taken with varieties of Nigerian stews such as tomatoes chicken stew, fish stew and the likes.
To Prepare Yamarita Fries Recipe (coated yam)
Ingredients for Yamarita fries Recipe
- 1/2 small yam tuber
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 medium egg
- 1/2 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/2 teaspoon tumeric
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon beef spices
- 1/2 teaspoon anis spices
- 1 cube stock cube
- 1/2 big onion for flavour
- salt to taste
- Green pepper, cayenne pepper to garnish
- Vegetable oil for frying
Preparation
- Peel yam, cut into desired sizes, wash and set aside.
- Sift and spice flour with curry powder, anis, ginger, tumeric, beef spices, stock cube and salt, set aside.
- Break open the egg, add salt, then whisk until foamy.
Cooking Procedure
- Put washed yam in the pot, add salt, water, apply heat, cook until done and remove heat.
- Leave yam to cool, put the yams in the spiced flour, first coat, dip the first coated yam to the whisked egg and back to spiced flour and second coat.
- Heat the vegetable oil, add onion, add coated yams, fry both sides on medium heat.
- Remove from heat, put in paper to drain excess oil.
- Chop the pepper and garnish while hot to absorb the flavour.
